A Conversation with Sam Pitroda

On June 10, 2013, the University of Toronto conferred an honorary degree upon Sam Pitroda, Advisor to the Prime Minister of India on Public Information Infrastructure & Innovations.
Dr. Pitroda is a towering figure in the modern technological and social history of India. His pioneering work in spearheading the telecommunications transformation in India has led to many of the country’s current successes.
Moreover, as Cabinet-level advisor to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Public Information Infrastructure and Innovations, Dr. Pitroda has been at the heart of a revolution in the delivery of public services in India.
Dr. Pitroda is passionate about inclusive innovation, education, access, equity, and sustainability. One of his guiding principles is that by making ideas, technology, and opportunity widely available people will overcome social and economic barriers and drive not just their own success, but India’s future as well.
In the afternoon after his honorary degree ceremony, Dr. Pitroda joined Professor Dilip Soman for a conversation on the subject India as an Innovation Nation: Implications for Canada and the World.
