Office of the

Creative Destruction Lab Awards Ceremony

President Meric Gertler presented awards to the Group of Seven (G7) Fellows and the Supporters of the Lab at the Creative Destruction Lab Awards Ceremony on February 7, 2014.

From the The Creative Destruction Lab website:

The Creative Destruction Lab at Rotman is a venture Lab that leverages: 1) the business school’s leading faculty and industry network, 2) inventions and talent from the world-class, technology-oriented faculties at the University of Toronto such as Computer Science, Engineering, and the University Health Network, and 3) its location in the heart of Toronto – North America’s third largest financial centre and one of the world’s most culturally diverse cities.

A central feature of Creative Destruction Lab at Rotman are meetings with the G7 Fellows. G7 Fellows make significant commitments to the success of ventures in our Lab. These individuals are experienced entrepreneurs who successfully created, grew, and harvested value from massively scalable, technology-based businesses. G7 Fellows set milestones with founders of our Lab ventures, evaluate their performance against these milestones, and provide them with introductions to relevant industry leaders.

The Lab launched in September 2012 with the goal of creating $50m in equity value in the ventures in the Lab in the first five years. Instead, the Lab’s ventures created $65m in the first ten months. The G7 Fellows commit to spending a significant amount of time working with students and alumni. They are volunteers and are central to the Lab’s success.
