Robert J. Birgeneau – Honorary Degree Ceremony
The University of Toronto conferred the degree of Doctor of Science, honoris causa, upon Professor Robert J. Birgeneau on Thursday, June 13, 2013. An internationally renowned physicist, Professor Birgeneau was honoured for his prominent contributions to the field and distinguished leadership in higher education. Professor Birgeneau served as 14th president of the University of Toronto from 2000-2004.
Honorary degrees are awarded to recognize extraordinary achievement in community, national or international service and to honour individuals whose accomplishments are of such excellence that they provide, through example, inspiration and leadership to the graduates of the University.
