Visit by His Excellency Sauli Niinistö, President of the Republic of Finland

The University of Toronto hosted a visit by His Excellency Sauli Niinistö, President of the Republic of Finland, his wife, Mrs. Jenni Haukio, and senior members of the government of Finland and Finnish business leaders. The delegation took part in a celebration of the 25th anniversary of Finnish Studies at U of T, hosted by Ms Judy Goldring, Chair of the Governing Council, and emceed by Professor Cheryl Regehr, Vice-President and Provost. The event included a roundtable discussion on the future of Finnish Studies in North America, and a scholarship presentation ceremony.

Later in the day, His Excellency participated in a public conversation on international relations and issues, with Professor Janice Stein, at the Munk School of Global Affairs. Ms Judith Wolfson, Vice-President, University Relations, gave welcoming remarks, and Ms Goldring offered closing remarks, after the conversation and a question-and-answer session. Guests, including many prominent members of the Finnish-Canadian community, proceeded to a reception with His Excellency in the adjoining lounge at the Campbell Conference Facility.
