Maria Klawe, the fifth president of Harvey Mudd College and the first woman to hold this title, was awarded the degree Doctor of Science, honoris causa. The degree was conferred in celebration of her achievements as a renowned computer scientist and longstanding advocate of women in the STEM subjects. She is best known for her research concerning algorithms for solving geometric optimization problems, distributed leader election, and the art gallery problem.
